THE HOME FOR PROGRESSIVE POLITICS
This Week’s Discussion:
Trump finally forces the Dems' hand, as they use the "I" word (and not the one Trump likes). We talk about what finally compelled the Dems to utilize the last best hope for preserving what passes for democracy in the US.
Anticipating the future, we comment on the false equivalence fallacy that continues to figure too prominently in our culture. When it comes to respecting democracy, the constitution, the flag, and our institutions...as well as the country, the planet, and basic human decency, we really need to stop equating the two political parties. We will talk about the mistakes we make, and why we make them.

THE HOME FOR PROGRESSIVE POLITICS
This Week’s Discussion:
Dave analyzes the issues addressed in round 3 of the Democratic debates, the first in which all the top candidates appeared on stage together. Dave provides his insights into health care, taxes, guns, racism, immigration, the economy, climate change and education.
We also discuss the civility of the debate, the contrast with the other political party, the continuing influence of the progressive candidates, and the number one takeaway from the debate: that one of these people needs to defeat Donald Trump...and badly!

Ep. 9.11.19: Competition: In Praise of Giving Every Kid A Trophy!

THE HOME FOR PROGRESSIVE POLITICS
This Week’s Discussion:
We examine our competitive natures. We take it as a given in this country that competition is good, but could our reverence for it prevent us from identifying it as a source of many of our ills? I confess to being a convert in support of the give-every-kid-a-trophy ideal, and wonder why it took me so long to come around.
Also, much of the big news of the week. Walmart and other retailers take embarrassingly-small baby steps regarding guns. President Trump's third, and longest-serving, National Security Adviser is fired. Or did he quit? (Someone may be telling the truth here.) We examine the legacy of John Bolton. The President again demonstrates that he is likely the nation's number one security threat who cannot be trusted with sensitive information; did he out a crucial CIA asset? The President brandishes a sharpie and thus shows his supporters he can control the weather. The latest Trump comedy of lies reveals too much about his values and his respect for truth. And the latest in gerrymandering, and musings on whether democracy can come to America.

Ep. 8.31.19: Happy War-on-Labor Day!
Saturday Aug 31, 2019
Saturday Aug 31, 2019
THE HOME FOR PROGRESSIVE POLITICS
This Week’s Discussion:
We celebrate Labor Day, even as the governing political party continues to celebrate War-on-Labor Day. The administration and Republican party continue to engage in their war on labor in every way imaginable, including through the naming of an anti-labor shill to head the Labor Department, the continued dismantling of the regulatory state, and its continuing war on immigrant and citizen workers.
Also, David Koch dies. And we acknowledge the memory of a sort-of-human by addressing his legacy of destruction and by shedding crocodile tears. And his spawn, President Mr. Bean, goes to the G7 meeting in Europe and continues to embarrass and marginalize the US on the world stage...or the sales floor, as he would (and did) have it.
