This Week’s Discussion:

In this week’s episode, we again consider how low a political party in America can sink.  We look to the killing of Saudi dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi and the Trump administration's efforts to help Saudi Arabia cover up the crime.  We explore our having underestimated the President of the United States with respect to all the crimes he has been willing to cover up, now likely including not only attempted rape, but murder. We look to how Senate Republicans broke a deal with Senate Democrats in order to continue filling our federal judiciary with political appratchiks rather than jurists, regardless of its impact on the US Senate and basic rules of decency.  Republicans are taking the long game with their judicial picks, and we dispel any notion that the federal judges they are putting on the federal benches will prove to put politics aside in their decisions.  We talk about how recent stock market events demonstrate that the critics of the GOP tax bill were right, but Republicans will spin it otherwise, with the help of the media.  Finally, we consider whether, in fact, our civic institutions are holding, or whether we should be very, very afraid.  We again call on voters to rescue this country in two weeks.
